The UM Athletics source for Hurricane sports

By DAVID FURONES

Being a sports writer for The Miami Hurricane and someone who genuinely loves to research University of Miami athletics, I’m always looking for new story ideas as well as updated information on anything going on over at the Hecht Athletic Center.

Powered by the University of Miami’s Athletic Department, Hurricanesports.com provides all the necessary information a journalist could possibly use when covering a beat on UM sports.

Its front page keeps readers up-to-date on recent news going on in the world of UM athletics, which makes for some solid story ideas. They provide recaps of games essentially as soon as they turn final.

A reporter can navigate the website and retrieve information on UM athletics’ community outreach and upcoming events or simply take a glance at the several teams’ schedules with dates and times for upcoming games and results with box scores and summaries for all games in the past.

A sports journalist may also be interested in viewing the many player profiles available throughout the site that catalog the careers of mostly all of the university’s student athletes, as well as coaches and administrators in the Athletic Department.

About David Furones

David Furones is junior at the University of Miami majoring in journalism and sport administration. He was born and raised in Miami-Dade County and has always considered UM to be his dream school (minus the hefty tuition price). He was born to Cuban parents who immigrated to the United States (legally of course) about a year and a half before his birth. He holds aspirations for a career in sports journalism upon graduation. Furones, who loved reading the sports section and watching ESPN as a child, knew that's what he wanted to do with his life at an early age.
