Gilt-less shopping with the click of a mouse

Ah yes, some of us long for the good old days when a girl would cruise to the mall for just about any reason. But in recent years, mall attendance has dropped and the Internet has given rise to a whole new way of card swiping: online shopping.

I’ve become a sucker for it, having bookmarked about 15 online shopping sites. It’s simple and quick, and I have more options without the hassle of driving and lines.

One site that I find exceptionally great for its bargains and selection of designers is Gilt Groupe. Gilt is an invitation only, online retailer that offers designer apparel, accessories and home goods at discount prices. And I’m talking up to 70 percent off!

Launched in 2007, Gilt Groupe is based out of New York and has “flash sales” lasting about 36 to 48 hours, similar to designer sample sales.

However, to nab some of these affordably priced designer duds, you need to become a member by signing up. That’s the easy part; the hard part is getting your hands on some of the hottest things, which go in a matter of minutes.

With more than two million members a year ago, according to New York Magazine, Gilt is certainly a less guilty way of shopping for a large amount of Americans, who during the recession, and these difficult financial times, need a good bargain. Who says you can’t look great wearing the newest trends without spending all your time and money?
