Many movies have been released in the past weeks, but “Deadpool” has definitely been one that has stood out. From the humor to the romance and to the action, “Deadpool” is the perfect package for lovers of romance, action and comedy all in one film.

Deadpool posterThe film stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin and Ed Skrein. It is directed by Tim Miller and rated PG-13.

The movie is based on the marvel comic book, “The New Mutants,” where Deadpool was originally portrayed as a villain but later became known as an antihero. Deadpool has also made an appearance in the 2009 film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

This retelling of this famous comic book takes place in New York City where Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) a former Special Forces operative who works as a mercenary meets escort Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin) at a bar.

After meeting, they start a relationship. After being together for one year, Wade proposes to Vanessa. She accepts but Wade falls ill, but it is discovered that he has terminal cancer. Although Vanessa stays by his side, he does not want her to see him die.

A recruiter of Weapon X later approaches Wade and offers him an experimental cure for his cancer. At first Wade refuses but then leaves Vanessa to undergo the procedure. Wade then meets Ajax (Ed Skrein) and Angel Dust (Gina Carano) at a lab where he is injected with a serum to activate latent mutant genes. Then he is subjected to weeks of torture to trigger the mutation without success. Wade later discovers that in reality he is being

turned into a super-powered slave to be sold to wealthy buyers. Days later Wade develops a healing factor, but so does his cancer, leaving him with a disfigured face and skin.

Wade then escapes the chamber to kill Ajax, but questions it when he is told that his disfigurement can be cured. Even though he discovered that he still killed Ajax by impaling him and leaving him to burn. What he didn’t know was that he remained alive.

Wade then tries to return to Vanessa, but is afraid of what she will think of him because of his disfigurement, so he stays away from her. After talking to his best friend Weasel (T.J. Miller), Wade decides to hunt Ajax down to cure him. Wade becomes a masked vigilante and takes the name “Deadpool.”

He follows a string of events eventually leading him to an expressway where he hopes to find Ajax. When he arrives at the expressway he kills all the escorts but then is distracted, and Ajax takes that as an opportunity to escape. Ajax then goes to Weasel’s bar and learns about Vanessa and kidnaps her. Deadpool then has to track him down once again to find his fiancé and save her. Deadpool convinces two X-Men recruits, Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic (Brianna Hildebrand) to help him find Vanessa.

Like all Marvel superhero movies, the audience is taken into an adventure to try to defeat the antagonist. What made this movie different was the fact that they cleverly incorporated humor and emotion into every scene of the film. There were moments where the audience would want to cry, but that would be substituted with laughter as Ryan Reynolds cleverly portrayed a character that was seemingly having his life ruined but still kept his sense of human intact.

This film had many aspects that stood out but one of the most loved was the way Wade Wilson spoke to the audience while keeping a sense of humor and seriousness at the same time. The effects of the film were realistic with the camera going into slow motion for Deadpool to speak to the audience as if it was part of his adventure and the film at the same time.

Although the soul genre of this film was comedy and action, romance and emotion were both incorporated at the necessary and correct timing taking the audience on a roller coaster of emotions ranging from uncontrollable laughter to being on the point of tears.

One of the many things talked about the film was the costumes. All the costumes were wittily made to fit all of the characters’ personalities and physical appearances. Even the costumes were a subject to the humor in the film, by Deadpool making jokes of all the mishaps he thinks he will have because of the tight fitting suit he wears.

The ending of the film is a very surprising one. At the end, it is proven that Vanessa’s love for Wade is stronger than his disfigurement.
