{"id":3424,"date":"2015-01-30T09:34:21","date_gmt":"2015-01-30T13:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/?page_id=3424"},"modified":"2015-01-30T11:51:33","modified_gmt":"2015-01-30T15:51:33","slug":"wednesday-farmers-market-offers-students-others-wide-range-of-food-options","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/our-reporting\/wednesday-farmers-market-offers-students-others-wide-range-of-food-options\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday Farmer&#8217;s Market offers students, others many food options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Posted January 30, 2015<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>By HANYA ALKHAMIS<\/p>\n<p>People gather from everywhere to visit the weekly campus Farmer\u2019s Market, which occurs every Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The market tries to provide the students and teachers and staff members with different types of foods and beverages to refresh their long and hectic schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Abdullah AL Essa an international student from Kuwait stated, \u201cthe Wednesday market, is a breath of fresh air to our rigorous weekly schedules the reason being is it offers alternative foods and drinks of which people can enjoy. All of the foods and drinks provided at the market are prepared locally creating a love for Cuban, Mexican, Caribbean foods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Internationals get the chance to experience fresh taste of local foods here in Miami. On average we get about a average of about 150 to 160 customers per Wednesday. I think the only bad thing about the market is that they shouldn\u2019t cut us out at 3 p.m. because students still are in classes by that time and search for food by like 5 p.m.,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-3403 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic3.png\" alt=\"pic3\" width=\"676\" height=\"508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic3.png 676w, https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic3-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic3-399x300.png 399w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rich Indian aroma permeated the atmosphere, allowing most of the people to stop or pass by Nisha\u2019s Flavours of India, an Indian booth. Indian food is a type of cuisine one just seems to crave and desire at the time when hunger strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Debbie Otero; the woman behind the booths counter managing all the customer needs, proudly stated she has taken part in this market since after Thanksgiving; \u201cit\u2019s my fourth time here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dealing with the students has been great we have gotten an overwhelming response speaking from the stand point of Nisha\u2019s Flavours of India, the students have really taken in to our food so has the staff. We get so many different people coming in from India who miss their Indian home-cooked meals from home, and Nisha\u2019s Flavours of India reminds them of their mother\u2019s cooking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3404\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic4.png\" alt=\"pic4\" width=\"788\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic4.png 788w, https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic4-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic4-500x293.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px\" \/><\/a>A wide variety of Samosas and chutneys and dals provide the students with a healthy Indian lunch that can fill them up and prevent them from snacking over unhealthy and unnatural foods.<\/p>\n<p>From Greek, to Indian to French, one cannot go wrong by choosing to start their long and hectic day with a freshly baked Croissant from the La Provence booth. Freshly made and given out with love the pastries consist of Chocolate, almond and butter, mouthwatering ingredients.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3406\" style=\"width: 311px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic-6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3406\" class=\" wp-image-3406\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/pic-6-150x150.png\" alt=\"How the Richter Library area looks like on Wednesdays.\" width=\"301\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Richter Library area on Wednesdays.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Laura Sutton; a farmer and a worker handling the overwhelming amounts of customers every Wednesday, provides them with freshly baked pastries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything here is made each morning, every Wednesday I come with freshly made pastries that are baked in the morning,\u201d she said. \u201cBegets, muffins and most importantly croissants are always available in the La Province booth with a decent price range making it an easy purchased by anyone and everyone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Wednesday Farmers Market is an anticipated weekly event that refreshes the students\u2019 tight, hectic and tiring schedules. Prices are considered to be high for most of the students who tend to buy food and beverages from the market,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only fulfilling meal that fits its costly price is the Gyro, the rest are all too expensive,\u201d Chelsey Sellars stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weekly Wednesday market allows students, teachers, staff members a chance to communicate with one another and enjoy their meals without having to walk around with their heads down typing into their phones. It is an opportunity for all students to change up their food plan for the day and eat a freshly cooked fulfilling meal, a meal that would also satisfy their homesickness,&#8221; said student Abdullah Al Essa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Happy and joyful vibes come from the market causing students to be more outgoing, talkative and sociable with one another, rather than dull and boring. \u201cWednesday\u2019s shouldn\u2019t be the only day of the week when the Farmer\u2019s Market occurs, we need to breathe more of that fresh air,\u201d Al Essa added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Posted January 30, 2015 By HANYA ALKHAMIS People gather from everywhere to visit the weekly campus Farmer\u2019s Market, which occurs every Wednesday.
