In response to the comments on \u201cThe View,\u201d Pence said during an interview with Axios journalist Mike Allen, \u201cI actually heard that ABC has a program that compared my Christianity to mental illness.\u00a0 And I\u2019d like to laugh about it, but I really can\u2019t . . . It\u2019s just wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pence told Allen, \u201cAnd it\u2019s an insult not to me, but to the vast majority of the American people who, like me, cherish their faith.\u00a0 My Christianity is the most important thing in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
CBN covered the story in favor of Pence and supported the vice president\u2019s stand against the comments made on \u201cThe View.\u201d<\/p>\n
As a Christian, upon reading the quotes made on national TV mocking the vice president\u2019s Christian faith, I was deeply offended.<\/p>\n
Regardless of your politics, to make fun of someone\u2019s religion, especially on national TV, in such an insensitive way is completely inappropriate.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I just think it demonstrates just how out of touch some in the mainstream media are with the faith and values of the American people that you could have a major network like ABC permit a forum for invective against religion like that,\u201d said Pence on Axios.\u00a0 \u201cAnd I call them out on it. Not because of what was said about me.\u00a0 But it\u2019s just simply wrong for ABC to have a television program that expresses that kind of religious intolerance.\u201d<\/p>\n
FOX News provided more coverage of the conversation that was held on \u201cThe View\u201d by explaining that the panelists\u2019 conversation was surrounding the idea of Pence, an evangelical Christian, becoming the new president and what that would entail.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s not very popular at all,\u201d Hostin said.\u00a0 \u201cI think when you have a Mike Pence who now sort of puts this religious veneer on things and calls people \u2018values voters,\u2019 I think we\u2019re in a dangerous situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
FOX News, which is typically criticized for conservative biased, did provide more well-rounded coverage of the story than CBN or the Christian Post.\u00a0 Although CBN, the Christian Post, ABC, and Fox News cater to niche audiences, Fox News presented a broader perspective on the incident.<\/p>\n
The FOX article mentioned the political debate unlike CBN, which only mentions the attack on Christian values.<\/p>\n
In the FOX News article, journalist Brian Flood wrote, \u201cBehar said hearing voices is a \u2018mental illness\u2019 before Sherri Shepard offered a limited defense of Pence.\u201d<\/p>\n
