{"id":6034,"date":"2016-04-15T02:21:16","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T06:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/?p=6034"},"modified":"2016-04-15T06:30:52","modified_gmt":"2016-04-15T10:30:52","slug":"elderly-model-changes-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/elderly-model-changes-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Model, 56, changes her industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By SIDNEY STERLING<\/p>\n<p>What do <em>SLiNK<\/em>, the only plus-size fashion magazine in print and <em>Sports Illustrated<\/em> have in common? 56-year-old British supermodel, Nicola Griffin.<\/p>\n<p>This past month, <em>SLiNK<\/em>\u2019s Passion Issue hit the stands featuring Griffin. Instead of just focusing on plus-size models they decided to take the publication a step further. If size does not matter in the fashion world, why should age?<\/p>\n<p>Following her feature in <em>SLiNK<\/em>, Griffin also flaunted her physique for a Swimsuitsforall campaign inside the <em>Sports Illustrated<\/em> Swimsuit Edition.<\/p>\n<p>Once consumers and readers caught a glimpse of Griffin\u2019s pieces, an equal amount of positive and negative opinions immediately created waves in the fashion industry.<\/p>\n<p>However, at the end of the day, Griffin was not trying to offend anyone. Instead, she intended to make a bold statement and raise awareness.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em>People m<\/em>agazine, Griffin stated, \u201c&#8221;Young girls open magazines and it influences them so much about body image. I particularly think it is very good for them to see different sized women, because otherwise they can feel bad about themselves if they do not look like the models they are constantly viewing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Social media outlets and various respected fashion news sites are praising Griffin for her brave statements.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6039 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-12-at-2.07.13-AM-300x33.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-04-12 at 2.07.13 AM\" width=\"402\" height=\"58\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In an article, Bustle.com stated, \u201cI have absolutely no doubt in my mind that if anyone were to become the next mature supermodel, it would be Griffin. Her positive attitude towards body acceptance, age, and her beautiful gray mane are inspiring, to say the least.
