{"id":6043,"date":"2016-04-15T02:51:15","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T06:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/?p=6043"},"modified":"2016-04-15T06:33:38","modified_gmt":"2016-04-15T10:33:38","slug":"earthquake-kills-9-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/reporting\/earthquake-kills-9-in-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"Earthquake kills nine in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By WYATT GELLER<\/p>\n<p>A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Japan late Thursday night killing nine people, according to CNN. \u00a0Nearly 800 people were injured as well.<\/p>\n<p>The earthquake occurred on the island of Kyushu, one of Japan\u2019s four main islands.<\/p>\n<p>Several buildings were damaged and Japan could face more.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The buildings that were damaged in the original shock have now been redamaged or reshaken,&#8221; said\u00a0CNN meteorologist Chad Myers on <a href=\"http:\/\/cnn.com\">CNN.com<\/a>. &#8220;And all of a sudden you have a cracked building and it wants to fall down with the second shake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The earthquake caused more than 44,000 people to evacuate their homes. \u00a0Thankfully, it did not produce a tsunami.<\/p>\n<p>Japan is remembered for having its largest earthquake to hit five years ago at a magnitude of 9.0 that killed more than 22,000 people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By WYATT GELLER A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Japan late Thursday night killing nine people, according to CNN. \u00a0Nearly 800 people were injured as well.
