Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, the presenters for the final award of the biggest night in Hollywood, were incorrectly given the Best Actress Award envelope. Beatty got confused after he saw Emma Stone\u2019s name and the name of her film, \u201cLa La Land.\u201d He handed the envelope to Dunaway who then announced the musical as the Best Picture winner.<\/p>\n
The cast of \u201cLa La Land\u201d took the stage and even began giving their speeches, however, the group stopped midway through when those on stage began to realize there had been a mistake.<\/p>\n
Jordan Horowitz, producer of \u201cLa La Land,\u201d shocked the audience of the Dolby Theatre when he announced \u201cThere\u2019s a mistake. \u2018Moonlight,\u2019 you guys won Best Picture. This is\u00a0not a joke, come up here.\u201d The producer added, \u201cMoonlight has won Best Picture.\u201d<\/p>\n
Beatty went to the microphone to explain what happened. He said \u201cI want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, \u2018La La Land.\u2019 That\u2019s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn\u2019t trying to be funny.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMoonlight\u201d\u00a0beat out \u201cLa La Land,\u201d \u201cHidden Figures,\u201d \u201cManchester by the Sea,\u201d \u201cArrival,\u201d \u201cHacksaw Ridge,\u201d \u201cHell or High Water,\u201d \u201cLion,\u201d and \u201cFences.\u201d<\/p>\n
This incident was easily the highlight of the night. The video went viral on Twitter and Facebook.
