It’s no lie that this season of “Girls” has been a breakthrough. It shifted the direction of the series and repositioned itself from season’s two weak ending.

“Girls” has surprised us with less black humor and an obvious change of personality in the characters. We are not used to seeing Hannah (Lena Dunham) happy or Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) going crazy and telling her friends she despises them. And whatever happened to Marnie? (Allison Williams), she has no dignity whatsoever and let’s not even talk about Jessa (Jemima Kirke), the now-revealed drug addict.

Zosia Mamet, Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams.

Charlie (Christopher Abbott) is gone from the series, allowing us to know more depth about Ray’s (Alex Karpovsky) character.

We also discovered part of the family of Hannah and Adam’s crazy sister, which is reappeared now pregnant from the Hannah’s neighbor.

The best part of the third season is that it stopped focusing exclusively on Lena Dunham’ s character. The girls are shown as a group of friends that try to love and support each other in their own different ways, yet have an independent and crazy life apart from each other.

On the other hand, Adam and Hannah got back together and appear to be a happy and stable couple living under the same roof. She was hired to write advertising copy for GQ fashion magazine and Adam finally got a job as an actor in a play on Broadway. But everything started falling apart for these two as Adam is consumed by the play practice and decides to leave the house to concentrate on his rehearsals.

Hannah tries to go along with her “relation-shift” but it was really hard on her to think that Adam didn’t want her near him during this period. In her intent of finding what to do and rearranging her priorities, she finally realizes that writing advertising copy is not her calling and despite the good salary she earns, she quits.

This finale, “Two Plane Rides,” was also a dramatic revelation episode where characters decided to come clean in their intentions and desires. Marni, for example, told Shoshanna she was having sex with her ex-boyfriend Ray, and then she unexpectedly kisses Desi before the play.

Shoshanna left us all in shock as she declared her love to Ray, even after she knows he was having sex with her friend. And Hannah, well, she has the power to surprise us with her actions. She was accepted to Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop and tells Adam right before his Broadway debut. Bad move on her part to tell him right there and then but we expect she didn’t do it to get back at him for his lack of presence in the relationship. It’s all an incognita for the audience.

After watching these dramatic moments, the episode ended with a big question mark: What’s next? And not only what is next but is Hannah leaving to Iowa? Can “Girls” survive outside of the Big Apple? What’s going to happen to Adam? What is Marnie going to do with her love life? The episode leaves an extensive list of questions that creates anxiety ahead of the anticipation.

Series: “Girls”

Genre: Comedy-drama

Created by: Lena Dunham

Number of seasons: 3

Running time: 30 minutes

Network: HBO

Schedule: 9 p.m. on Sundays

Rating: *****

Posted April 29, 2014 By VALERIE LOPEZ Yes, “Girls” brings us back here again.
