She is a journalism major with minors in visual art and sports medicine. She was born and raised in New York City and loves the cultural diversity the city has to offer. Apple hopes to attend law school after graduation and become an entertainment or sports attorney. She attended an arts high school in New York City in which she studied fine arts. She especially loves modern art and design and she is passionate about interior design and art collection.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5520\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Laura.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"175\" \/>Laura Bea <\/strong>(<a href=\"mailto:laurabea@miami.edu\">laurabea@miami.edu<\/a>) is a junior majoring in political science and minoring in journalism and history. She has written for the opinion page of <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em> and is a Canes Ignite Mentor. She writes court opinions as a Student Government Supreme Court Justice, serves as vice president of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society, and serves as Voter Ambassador Chair of Get Out The Vote at UM. She is from New York City but moved to Charlotte with her family during high school, where she first was introduced to journalism through her school\u2019s yearbook. She is passionate about the environment, social justice, and travel. She studied in Amsterdam, which reaffirmed her passions. He is from Edgemont, N.Y., a small community in Westchester County. He works for UMTV on the shows &#8220;SportsDesk&#8221; and &#8220;NewsVision&#8221; as well as doing play-by-play and color commentary for the student radio station, WVUM. He has also written for <i>The Miami Hurricane<\/i> as well as Fansided\u2019s University of Miami branch, <em>CanesWarning<\/em>. After graduation, she hopes to write for a magazine or newspaper in the lifestyle and travel sections. Originally from Caracas, Analya has lived in Miami since 2014. She is fluent in English and Spanish and learning Italian, French, and Hebrew. Analya is interested in the arts, food and traveling, Latin American politics, and fashion.\u00a0 She wishes to travel to every continent and she enjoys visiting museums and art galleries, as well as spending time with her dog Pipa. She is originally from New York City but moved to South Florida in 2014. Ciana developed a passion for journalism when she joined her high school\u2019s yearbook team. She was copy editor, sports editor and editor-in-chief. At UM, she has worked for <em>The Miami Hurricane. <\/em>She hopes to write lifestyle and entertainment pieces or investigative reporting for a magazine. Sanbe&#8217;s interests in anthropology and global affairs have led her to constantly research new places and add new destinations to her ever-expanding travel list. In her spare time, you can catch her working on her art or maybe chairing a meeting of the Miami Model United Nations team as this year&#8217;s newly elected head delegate.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5544\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Alli.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"175\" \/>Alexandria Sharifi <\/b><\/strong>(<a href=\"mailto:aes296@miami.edu\">aes296@miami.edu<\/a>) is a senior majoring in journalism and philosophy from Winnetka, IL. She has interned for ABC\u2019s &#8220;Good Morning America&#8221; and ESPN\u2019s &#8220;First Take.&#8221; She writes for her blog (<a href=\"http:\/\/alexandria1.medium.com\">alexandria1.medium.com<\/a>) and contributes to <em>Distraction<\/em>. Alexandria is passionate about cultural immersion and societal change and plans to start her career as a travel journalist in Bali after graduation. She was born and raised in Miami. Samantha has contributed to FIU\u2019s <i>PantherNOW <\/i>and plans to spend her final year at UM writing for <i>The Miami Hurricane<\/i>. Her passions include music, thrifting, traveling, spending time with loved ones, and poetry. In her free time, she works as a tutor and is an avid runner. She is from the Washington, D.C., area, though she and her family have lived in different locations across the United States. She currently writes for <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em> and <em>Distraction<\/em> magazine on campus. Some of her hobbies include thrifting, traveling and being outdoors. She has been an anchor, an entertainment reporter and an associate producer for UniMiami, UMTV\u2019s only Spanish speaking show. She is proud of her Puerto Rican and Latino roots and wants to keep the Latino community updated on current events. She is from Orange County, Calif., where she grew up. Bailey chose to come across the country because of Miami&#8217;s highly respected School of Communication. Cal was born in Chicago, but grew up in Jupiter. He works as a volleyball and basketball beat writer at <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>. He previously worked at Fansided, a sports blogging website from 2016 to 2020. Friedman worked as site editor of The Rat Trick, a subdivision of Fansided dedicated to Florida Panthers hockey in 2018. He works as a sports broadcaster at WVUM and works as an anchor at UMTV&#8217;s sports- show, &#8220;Sportsdesk.&#8221;<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5343\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Parker-Gimbel.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"175\" \/>Parker Gimbel <\/strong>(<a href=\"mailto:pmg97@miami.edu\">pmg97@miami.edu<\/a>) is a senior majoring in journalism and film with a minor in Spanish. He is the managing editor of <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>, the UM student newspaper, and has done freelance writing for various publications in South Florida. He is from New York City, where he grew up before moving to Ocean City, N.J., for high school. In his free time, Parker enjoys playing guitar and piano, in addition to making films with his friends. She was born and raised in Bartlett, Ill., and recently moved to San Antonio. Isabella has worked on three UMTV shows, is a head lifeguard and instructor at the UC Pool and Assistant Philanthropy Chair for her sorority. She was an intern for Media for Change this past summer. She was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, and recently moved to Miami. She is social media chair for PorColombia at UM and an International Admissions assistant. She has interned for Power Collective, a Miami PR agency, and <em>El Tiempo<\/em>, a Colombian newspaper. He has a passion for telling stories and being the voice for those who don\u2019t have their own. His love for photography and broadcasting was found during a photo expedition to Port Au Prince, Haiti, where he spent a week documenting the Easter rituals that take place. She has also been an adjunct professor at the UM School of Communication. Pam is currently working on a Master of Arts degree in journalism. As a contributing photographer and writer for <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>, his interest in travel media has surged. Jordan also works as a swim coach for Hurricane Aquatics. She is a senior studying journalism with a minor in art history. She has worked for the <em>Miami Rail<\/em> magazine and also spent a summer interning with fashion house, Moschino, at its New York City headquarters. Chiara hopes for a career working for a luxury or high-fashion magazine, specifically in the travel section. When she was younger, she set a life goal of reaching 30 countries by age 30. From places like Rome, Mykonos, and Istanbul, she grew a passion for traveling, sharing her experiences with others. She plans to attend law school for either human rights or real estate and she knows her passion for law grew from traveling. Upon graduating, she will go to Spain\u00a0 and then\u00a0 to law school. Throughout her life, she spent a lot of time outdoors and involved in different sports. She danced and, after becoming bored with it, decided to become a competitive swimmer. She is not sure in which direction she wants her life to take her, but she believes she wants to do something with marine conservation through writing. Being a swimmer and studying in Australia, the ocean has become a prominent focus. Renee, having an eye for design and fashion, worked for LF Clothing for two years, promoting the brand through social media and organizing events. Her father used to own a TV station in Venezuela, but he sold it before government took it over. She wants to get back to her home country as soon as she finishes her master&#8217;s degree. Her goal is to be successful not only at work, but as a person. Originally from Plymouth, Mass., she transferred to UM as a sophomore from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Currently working as an editorial intern at <em>Ocean Drive Magazine<\/em>, she aspires to work for a publication such as <em>The<\/em> <em>New York<\/em> <em>Times<\/em> or <em>National Geographic<\/em>. He\u2019s traveled to the majority of states in the U.S., and has been to countries in North America and Europe, most notably Cuba. He is an anchor on UMTV\u2019s Sportsdesk and has interned at <em>The Miami Herald, <\/em>560 WQAM, 790 WAXY, Sirius XM radio, and WPLG-TV. He is the main vocalist and lyricist for the band Dinosaurs &#8216;N Disasters, their first EP &#8220;Life After Youth&#8221; was released in November 2010. She recently held an internship at a travel and tourism office in Barcelona, where she was responsible for translating travel guides into Spanish. She hopes to become a health journalist and inspire others through her writing to lead a healthy lifestyle. Her initiatives are global health and nutrition. Andrea worked as an intern for University of Miami\u2019s THINK Program and Common Threads Miami; both programs taught kids in under-served communities about nutrition, physical activity, and how to prepare healthy meals. Growing up in Miami\u2019s melting pot, she loves to fully immerse herself in other cultures. She had the opportunity to study abroad in China and Western Europe and she spent the past spring semester in Paris. She is a native Spanish speaker, proficient in French, and would like to continue learning more languages. The first week of her freshman year, she joined <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em> staff as a copy editor and reporter. Since then, she has worked on the staff as the copy chief and news editor. This year, she is the editor-in-chief of <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>. In late July 2011, she began interning for <em>The Miami Herald<\/em>. With a strong passion for sports, Mikayla aspires to be a sports journalist, but also covers political news. Majoring in journalism and minoring in sociology, de Armas is the opinion editor of UM\u2019s award-winning newspaper, <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>. She is also a contributing writer for the university\u2019s yearbook, The Ibis, and a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. In the summer between her junior and senior year, de Armas interned for an online publication in Washington, D.C., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hispaniclink.org\/Hispanic_Link\/Front_Page.html\">Hispanic Link News Service<\/a>. In the future she hopes to combine her love of storytelling and travel into a career.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Emma-Reyes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-157\" title=\"Emma Reyes\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Emma-Reyes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a>Emma Reyes<\/strong> (<a href=\"mailto:e.reyes7@umiami.edu\">e.reyes7@umiami.edu<\/a>) suffered a tragic accident at the age of 2 that left her paralyzed from the waist down and with one semi-functional right arm. Her disability has been the catalyst of her personal and emotional growth. It has helped her define who she is as an individual and who she is yet to become. Reyes is currently enrolled at UM to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in print journalism and a minor in English. She volunteers her time as a committee member and manages social media via Facebook for The Miami Chapter of The Buoniconti Fund, the fundraising arm of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. She hopes to go in into the area of sports writing for an established news media. Reyes has written for <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>, <em>Distraction<\/em> <em>Magazine<\/em>, <em>The Miami Planet<\/em> website and Our National Parks website, which have given her the opportunity to become a better writer and reporter. She has not traveled much to date, but hopes within the next two years she can visit some of the historical places in the world. Her dream is to visit Paris, Ireland, and Greece.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Daniela-Rodriguez.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-155\" title=\"Daniela Rodriguez\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Daniela-Rodriguez.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a>Daniela Rodriguez<\/strong> (<a href=\"mailto:cdaniela8107@gmail.com\">cdaniela8107@gmail.com<\/a>) is a senior majoring in journalism and minoring in international studies. She has had previous experience as an editorial intern for a luxury magazine, as a fashion intern at a men&#8217;s fashion magazine in New York, and as a production management intern at MTV. After graduation, Daniela hopes to land a position as a stylist assistant or as an editorial assistant at a major magazine. Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, and raised in Miami, Daniela has a desire to visit the countries of the many different nationalities found in Miami. She hopes to do freelance work that would require traveling and being immersed in different cultures.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Brittany-Weiner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-153\" title=\"Brittany Weiner\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Brittany-Weiner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a>Brittany Weiner<\/strong> (<a href=\"mailto:b.weiner1@umiami.edu\">b.weiner1@umiami.edu<\/a>) is a senior at UM majoring in print journalism and art, with a minor in marketing.\u00a0 She was born and raised in Marlboro, N.J. Brittany has been published in many on campus publications including <em>Distraction Magazine<\/em> and <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>, and is currently the Lifestyles editor of the <em>Ibis<\/em> yearbook.\u00a0 For the past two summers, Brittany has held internships in New York City.\u00a0 In the summer between her sophomore and junior years, she interned at <em>Woman\u2019s Day<\/em> magazine, and this previous summer she was a Beauty editorial intern for <em>Allure<\/em> magazine.\u00a0 She has interests in fashion, music, photography, and art, and is an aspiring fashion editor of a magazine.\u00a0 After graduation, Brittany plans on looking for a job within either the fashion or magazine industries.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Laura-Yepes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-158\" title=\"Laura Yepes\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/~travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Laura-Yepes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a>Laura Yepes<\/strong> (<a href=\"mailto:l.yepes1@umiami.edu\">l.yepes1@umiami.edu<\/a>) is a senior at the University of Miami majoring in journalism and political science with a minor in Portuguese. She has worked as a reporter for <em>The Miami Hurricane<\/em>, the university\u2019s prize-winning student newspaper, and as the copy editor for the <em>Ibis<\/em>, the university\u2019s student yearbook.\u00a0 As a junior in 2012, Yepes studied abroad in Spain at the University of Granada. She focused on political science and traveled around Western Europe and Morocco, with stops in Tangier, Paris, London, and Lisbon.
