Rich in culture and history, Vienna has been a hub for world class artists, musicians and writers. Deep rooted in Austrian culture, these coffee houses\nhave been hot spots for the world\u2019s\ntop politicians, writers and artists alike. Whether an old classic or something\nnewly renovated, the art and elegance of the Viennese coffee house remains\nintact. There is no better way to start your trip than bouncing around the city\u2019s top coffee houses getting a\ncaffeine high along the way. Start at Cafe Central, one of the most famous and\ntraditional of the Viennese coffee houses. Indulge in a selection of tortes and\ncakes under the high cathedral-like ceiling. Make sure to save room for the\noriginal Sachertorte at Cafe Sacher, the next stop on the list. A rich\nchocolate cake with apricot jam, this decadent treat has become a Viennese\nstaple, and for good reason.&nbsp;&nbsp; Just a few\nblocks away is Aida Cafe. Feast your eyes on a wide array of sweet treats\nlining the display cases. Pretty in pink, this historic coffee house is easy on\nthe eyes with a 1950s ambience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3 p.m. Take a fiaker through Old Town<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"338\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna3.jpg 275w, https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna3-244x300.jpg 244w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><figcaption>A fiaker rolls past Hofburg Palace.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no cozier way to explore Vienna\u2019s Old Town than a fiaker ride.\nThis horse drawn carriage takes passengers on a 20-minute tour passing staple\nattractions such as the impressive St. Stephen\u2019s Cathedral, decorated with painted tiles in an ornate design;\nMozarthaus, once home to one of the most well known classical music composers;\nand numerous statues and memorials, most notably being the Ankeruhr (Anchor\nClock). The clock, adorned with mosaic ornaments, forms a bridge between the\ntwo parts of the Anker Insurance Co. building. If you are lucky enough to trot\nby the Ankeruhr at noon, keep your eyes peeled as historical figurines parade\nacross the bridge, accompanied by music from various eras. A typical Fiaker\ntour of Old Town costs \u20ac55 ($60.44).&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4 p.m. See a show at the Spanish\nRiding School<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The large baroque riding hall is a sight\nin and of itself with pillars lining the arena and grand chandeliers dangling\nfrom the ceiling. However, the performance by the Lipizzan horses- the Ballad\nof the White Stallions &#8211; is the riding school\u2019s claim to fame. Accompanied by classical Viennese music, the\nperformance is enchanting from start to finish. Performance tickets range from \u20ac25-27\n($27.47-29.67), but tickets to watch the daily training of the Lipizzans are\navailable at the box office each morning for just \u20ac15 ($16.48). A guided tour\nof the facility is also available for \u20ac18 ($19.78).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5:30 p.m. Grab a sausage at Bitzinger Wurstelstand<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"428\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4737\" srcset=\"https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna1.jpeg 275w, https:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna1-193x300.jpeg 193w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><figcaption>A Kasekrainer, or sausage, from Bitzinger Wurstelstand.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topped with an LED sign and an\nunmistakable emerald-green rabbit, this traditional Austrian street food stand\nis hard to miss. Offering up variations of juicy sausage stuffed in a hollowed\nout French roll, Bitzinger Wurstelstand at Albertina is sure to have a line\nwrapped around the corner. Though, the flavor-packed sausages are well worth\nthe wait. The popular Kasekrainer, a large sausage filled with chunks of\ncheese, is just \u20ac4,40 ($4.83). Right across from the Opera House, the Bitzonger\nWurstel is the perfect pre-show bite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>6 p.m. Watch a performance at the\nVienna State Opera House<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Host to some of the world\u2019s most famous singers and conductors, the\nfamous State Opera House is sure not to disappoint. Extravagantly decorated\nwith red and gold accents, the interior of the building is enough to take your\nbreath away. You can take a glimpse behind the scenes of the world\u2019s largest repertoire theater with\nguided tours of the Opera House for just \u20ac9 ($9.89). With both opera and ballet\nperformances, there is a little something for everyone. Opera prices range from\n\u20ac16-39 ($17.58-42.85), while ballet prices are a bit less expensive, ranging\nfrom \u20ac12-51 ($13.19-56.04).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>9 p.m. Top off the night at the\nAtmosphere Rooftop Bar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located at the Ritz-Carlton Vienna, this\nupscale cocktail bar has one of the best views of the city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open mid-April until the end of the\nsummer, the eighth floor bar serves up light bites along with Austrian-inspired\ncocktails and wines. Although it is a bit on the expensive side, the outdoor\nseating with a summer breeze against the city backdrop is a must. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saturday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>10 a.m. Browse the Naschmarkt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start your day browsing Vienna\u2019s most famous market: the\nNaschmarkt. The market runs for almost a mile, making it Vienna\u2019s largest market by far. You can find\nalmost anything you can imagine with fruits and vegetables from around the\nworld, exotic spices, olives, cheeses, meats, and seafood. There are also many\nrestaurants and food stalls serving a host of Viennese specialties and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>11 a.m. Tour the Belvedere <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Belvedere is one of the leading\nmuseums worldwide with three different sections, there is more than enough to\nsee. Lower Belvedere, once the residential palace of Prince Eugene, is now home\nto art exhibitions from the Middle Ages to the present day. Regular entry\ntickets are sold at \u20ac14 ($15.38). The baroque palace of Upper Belvedere is the\nmost visited museum in Austria, with works from Monet and Van Gogh. Regular\nentry tickets to this section are \u20ac16 ($17.58). Lastly, the Belvedere 21 is a\nvenue for contemporary art, film and music. Regular entry tickets to Belvedere\n21 are \u20ac8 ($8.79).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2 p.m. Have a picnic in Stadtpark<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a long few hours of museum\ntouring, Vienna\u2019s most\ngorgeous park is the ideal outdoor lunch spot. Divided in two sections by the\nVienna River, the large park has statues of famous Viennese artists, literary\nfigures, and composers scattered across the grounds. Lay out a blanket and take\nin the scenery while enjoying your goodies from the Naschmarkt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4 p.m. Wander the Hundertwasserhaus\nblock<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deemed one of Vienna\u2019s most Instagram-worthy spots, this\ncolorful and quirky apartment block cannot go unseen. Each building is painted\nwith vibrant colored blocks of orange, blue, red and white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The graffiti-like design makes the row\nof apartments look as if they came straight from a page in a Dr. Seuss book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5 p.m. Ride the Riesenrad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Round off your second day with a ride\naround the Riesenrad, the giant Ferris wheel at the entrance of the Prater\nAmusement Park. With unforgettable city views, the attraction stands 64.75\nmeters tall. You can buy single ride tickets for \u20ac12 ($13.19) or arrange to\nhave dinner or coffee while you enjoy your ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>7 p.m. Take in the view from the\nDanube Tower.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re looking for another good view, look no further than the Danube\nTower, the tallest structure in Austria. Viewing platforms 450 feet above the\nground give tourists and locals alike an incredible view of the city and\nsurrounding areas. There are also two revolving restaurants in the tower,\nmaking for a perfect spot to wind down after a long day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sunday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>9 a.m. Visit the Schonbrunn Palace<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.com.miami.edu\/travelwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Vienna4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4740\" width=\"308\" height=\"346\"\/><figcaption>A hillside view of Schonbrunn Palace, one of the favorite tourist attractions in Vienna.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No trip to Vienna is complete without visiting the Schonbrunn Palace, home of the Hapsburg empire. There is so much to do at Schonbrunn, from a zoo to the orangery, that you could spend the entire day there. Tour the palace itself or take in the view of the massive garden labyrinths from the hill. Make sure to arrive early as ticket lines are often very long. The classic pass offers access to five attractions: the palace, Privy Garden, Orangery Garden, Maze and Gloriette for \u20ac26,50 ($29.12).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If You Go<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are plenty of places to stay in Vienna, ranging from fairly\ninexpensive to outrageously priced, including Airbnb, hostels, mid-range\nhotels, and luxury five star hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wombat<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s City Hostels\nVienna &#8211; $ <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Found in the Naschmarkt and close to the museum quarter, this highly\nrated hostel offers both dormitory and private rooms at a great price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hotel Konig von Ungarn &#8211; $$<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This four-star hotel is one of Vienna\u2019s oldest.
